Banging My Head On The Wall

I'm miserable...and so is Will. We have had 5 formula changes in the last month and he still is showing no improvement. We started out on Neosure which is a higher calorie formula designed for preemies. He was getting so constipated he would scream whenever he had a BM and became very uncomfortable and fussy even when he wasn't having one. We tried pear juice and prune juice, but they just created more gas and although they eventually helped, the cycle would always start again. We switched to a regular formula with iron in the hopes that the extra calories in the Neosure were the cause of his issues, but we saw no improvement after a week. At that point, we decided to go straight to soy because Lili had similar problems and eventually ended up on soy. In fact, she still drinks soy milk today and does really well. Apparently Will is a different "animal" and his system just couldn't take it. The constipation issue was resolved however his fussiness got ten times worse. He began arching his back, drawing his legs up and seemed to be in constant pain. Again, we gave it a week before moving on to Nestle Good Start. Apparently there is a different type of protein in the Nestle products which our pediatrician thought might be easier for Will to digest. The fussiness improved a little bit, but that's when the vomiting started. I SWEAR he was spitting up at least half of every feeding for 3 days before we gave up on that one. Then came the Gentlease.......once again, no change. Now we are on Nutramigen. We just started the Nutramigen today and I KNOW we need to give it some time, but tonight was awful. Will basically cried from 7:00-8:30pm before I finally got him to pass out in his swing. He's overtired because he's not sleeping well during the day and he is still showing signs of abdominal pain. He cries through 75% of his feedings...spits the bottle out but then screams for more (yes, we do try many other things before offering him food)... The doctor mentioned colic at one point, but he has been so inconsistent with his fussiness and all of the other symptoms that it's been difficult to diagnose. Plus, what we have really noticed the last few days is that most of Will's crying occurs DURING feedings. Of course there are times when he cries for other things, but those seem to be "normal" cries (with the exception of the hour and a half of craziness this evening). In between feedings he does pretty good. Today he spent a lot of time on his playmat...hanging out in his carseat observing the Lane household in action... I'm starting to freak a little bit because it's been a month now and you can tell something still isn't right. He might have a few feedings in a row where we "think" something is working, but then it always goes downhill again. Tomorrow we are making our 5th visit to the pediatrician since all of this started and I am going to refuse to leave her office until she FIXES HIM!!! This cannot be normal and the thought of returning to work in a week and a half with things unresolved makes me want to vomit. I'm pretty sure I'm giving myself an ulcer...

Oh yeah...we have also tried gas drops, gripe water, making bottles with purified "Nursery" water (made especially for infants!) and just about all of the soothing techniques possible (swaddling, swinging, pacifiers, etc.). If you have any miracle cures, please let me know!!

how frustrating! Have you tried a different type of bottle? I have no idea if that would work, but might be worth a try if nothing else is helping! Good luck!! Poor little guy (and Mama!!)
