A Potty Story

Lili's interest in the toilet these days is pretty amusing. We bought her a Fisher Price potty with a lid, that is supposed to serve as a "throne" of sorts and if she goes, she can push a button that praises her for her amazing pottying abilities. We set it up in the bathroom and made sure to point it out whenever we had the opportunity, just to see how she would react to it. Initially she thought it was funny. She would run into the bathroom yelling "Potty! Potty!", lift the lid, turn around and sit on it...fully clothed. A few minutes later she would yell, "All done!", stand up, put the lid down and run away. Then her "throne" suddenly didn't seem so much fun anymore and instead, she wanted to sit on the real potty. If we even took our eyes off of her for a second, she would run into the bathroom, lift the lid on the big potty and try to climb up. My biggest fear was that she would get up there, fall in and then be "afraid" of the potty altogether. This is when we decided to get one of those Sesame Street seats that go over the adult seat. Multiple times a day we hear her yelling, "Potty! Potty!" and because we don't want to discourage her from trying to do it herself, we take off her clothes and diaper and sit her on her "Melmo" seat. She doesn't go...she just claims she does. That's when she completes the activity with "All done!", climbs down with a huge smile on her face, grabs some toilet paper and touches it to her butt, throws that in the toilet, SLAMS the lid down and flushes...then flushes again...and again...and again...until you FORCE her kicking and screaming out of the bathroom altogether. The other night she wanted to go potty before her bath, so we sat her on the "Melmo" seat...and waited...and waited..."All done!" she yelled. She climbed off the potty, stood next to it staring at Drew and peed all over the floor. This is when we tried to explain that THAT is pee-pee (everything is poo-poo right now) and pee-pee goes IN the potty...not next to it. Thank God that was before her bath, though I'm pretty sure this is something we need to start getting used to!
Yesterday Lili had to be kept home from daycare because she had a 102 temp the day before (we still aren't exactly sure why since she ended up being fine). She and I got some things done around the house and she was in a great mood. We played downstairs in the playroom most of the day and that's when she stumbled on the "other" potty. She got a My 1st Dollhouse for X-mas which has a few people and some furniture that she can move around. One of the pieces is a potty. I was vacuuming and suddenly she starts yelling, "Potty! Potty!". She comes out of the playroom carrying the miniature potty, which is only about 2" x 2". "Yes Lili, that's a potty!" The kid then bends down, places it on the floor, lifts the lid up, turns around and tries to SIT ON THE 2" POTTY!!! I just about peed my pants! I mean, the kid is funny, but that was HYSTERICAL. I was laughing so hard she decided to continue to entertain me by spending the next 15 minutes trying to "go potty". Of course this gave me time to grab my camera so that I could capture her flexibility and diligence at successfully perching her little body on top of the mini potty.
My kids seriously crack me up!!!

I am laughing out loud at your silly little monkey. At least she peed on the floor in the bathroom, and not on the 2" potty/carpet! (yet) haha just kidding.
