Lane Funnies

Lots of things have been making me laugh lately... It's the kind of stuff that you laugh at when it's happening and then every time you think about it, it makes you giggle.

Little Man has been trying desperately to sit up on his own. His belly is just round enough though to where that's not the easiest task for him. He was actually able to stay up for about 30 seconds last night before falling forward and doing a face plant. Then he just laid there, bent completely in half...with his face resting on his feet...laughing hysterically. Of course I didn't try to help him back up because I found it too funny to do anything about it. Plus, it was entertaining Miss. Lili!

Lili laughed when Daddy farted the other day and then ripped one of her own and said, "Poo-poo!"

Will is drooling like a madman these days, which Lili has been noticing. She will then look for a tissue or wipe or any random cloth to help clean him up. The other night there was nothing within reach so she cupped her hand under his mouth to "catch" the drool...then held it out to me to take and said, "Yuck!". She's not afraid to touch or hold anything, but her new thing is to give it to Mom when she doesn't want it anymore.

For the most part, Lili wants nothing to do with Daddy when Mama is around. We hear this is a typical toddler phase. Drew continues to try to win her over whenever he gets a chance, but her most common reaction is to yell, "No! Mama!" and hold her arms out to me instead. For the past week or so, after Drew gets her into her carseat each morning, she suddenly throws a fit and starts SOBBING. It's this horribly dramatic cry of "MY Dada! MY Dadaaaaaaaaa!" with huge crocodile tears rolling down her face. I know this probably shouldn't make me laugh, but there is this unbelievable AGONY in her voice and the thought of it coming from a 20 month old is fairly amusing!

Drew was home with the kids on Saturday while I went scrappin' at Archiver's, so he had to coordinate the nighttime routine by himself. He later told me that as it neared 7pm, he was getting a bottle for Will and told Lili to go into the living room and get ready to watch Barney while he fed the baby. A few minutes later he walked into the room to find Lili sitting on the couch in the same position and spot that he always sits in...with her baby doll propped up on her legs (just like Daddy)..."feeding" her a bottle. This is the 1st time she's really shown any true interest in her baby and now she sleeps with it every night!

I love how Lili talks in the 3rd person and always with a question mark at the end..."Lee-lee's coo-kees? Lee-lee's shoes? Lee-lee's bike?"

We have read "Moo Baa La-La-La" by Sandra Boynton probably a thousand times since Lili was born. Recently she demonstrated for us just how familiar she is with the book. It went something like this:

A: A cow says...
L: "MOOO!!"
A: A sheep says...
L: "Baaaaaaa!"
A: Three singing pigs say...
L: "La-La-La!"
A: No, no you say, that isn't right. The pigs say...
L: (snorts like a pig)
A: All day and night. Rhinoceroses snort and snuff...
L: (sniffles like a rhinoceros)
A: And little dogs go...
L: "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!"
A: Some other dogs go...
L: "Bow-wow-wow!"
A: And cats and kittens say...
L: "Meow"
...and on and on... Hearing her do this is what made me realize she was listening and paying attention to so much more than I thought! She went from not filling in any of the sounds for the book, to helping recite the whole thing! Now I can "hear" her little voice saying, "Bow wow wow!" and laugh all day long.

Will has the most AMAZING belly laugh!! I actually had another parent ask me if my kid was "the really happy baby with the huge smile"...umm yeah, that would be Will! He'll just be sitting there and all of a sudden this crazy, deep laugh erupts from his mouth. You can't help but stop everything you're doing to go enjoy his happiness.
