Dad & Mary Kay

This past weekend my Dad and his wife, Mary Kay, came for a visit. This was their 1st trip to MN to see us since we moved back and also their very 1st time meeting Will! They arrived Friday evening and left Monday morning and although the weekend seemed to fly by, we had a great time.

Lili took to them right away, but Will was a little more skeptical. He recently started showing some signs of stranger anxiety, so these unfamiliar, new faces upset him a bit. By the 2nd day though, even Will had warmed up and the smiles from the kids were contagious. They loved the attention and all of the fun, silly things that grandparents like to do to make their grandbabies laugh!

Our weekend was spent just hanging out around the house...chatting...eating...drinking a little vino. We made a trip to Trader Joe's with Lili, took a long walk around the neighborhood, bbq'd some food... Drew and I even got an afternoon out to go see a movie while Grandpa and Granny Kay watched the kids! I have to say...arriving home from that outing was pretty funny! Apparently Lili convinced Grandpa to make her some "special water". One evening when she was throwing a fit over not being allowed to have juice before bed (we never let her have juice in the evenings, so I have no idea why that particular night was such a big deal to her), I calmed her down by offering her "special water". She needed to drink something so that I could get her daily dose of Miralax in her (yes, she has pooping issues...just like her mother) and was refusing milk or "plain" water...so I had to come up with something new and fun. In the end, the solution was water with a little bit of Crystal Light in it to give it some flavor. This turned one unhappy girl into a sweet little princess. ANYWAY, I guess Lili decided to hit Grandpa up for some "special water" while he was in charge. Dad seemed so confused by the "special water" request and finally asked Lili to show him what she wanted. She took him straight to the pantry, pulled out the individual serving size packets of Crystal Light...showed him where the ice was and insisted on picking out her own...and waited for him to concoct her special water. Grandpa was rolling his eyes as he told me the story, but Lili had the most ginormous grin on her face. What a piece of work!

As I've said before, another visit by family is another reminder of how much we all miss out on by living so far apart. Hopefully someday things will change and our kids will get to know their grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins with visits a little more often than we are getting now!

P.S. Lili LOVES her Twilight Turtle!!!! Every night she gets so excited to see the moon and stars on her ceiling! She prefers to have him next to her, rather than on her dresser, so thank goodness he's soft!
