Little Man has gone all psycho on us the last few days. Something "changed" in him a couple of months ago and recently it got much worse. Basically the issue is that his sleeping and eating is messed up. Not just a little messed up. ALL messed up! We thought it was a growth spurt...then we thought it was teething...then a growth spurt...then teething... As things got a little better or a lot worse, we would think "NOW it's a growth spurt"...or "NOW he must be getting teeth." In the end, we don't know what the deal is. My biggest concern at this point is the eating. He eats a lot and his night waking makes us feel like we are back to the newborn stage again. The difference is that he consumes a lot more in a feeding and goes right back to sleep when he's done. We've tried feeding him more during the day...pacifiers, rocking, music, etc. to soothe him when he wakes up, rather than rushing for a bottle...but none of it works. The two choices we are left with are 1. give him a bottle or 2. make him cry it out. Due to the missing backbone issue, this means # 2 really isn't an option at all. I can tolerate a few minutes of crying, but an hour of nonstop screaming from a 9 month old? No way.
This morning we took the little Chunk-A-Monk to the pediatricians for his 9 month wellness check up. His stats? 20lbs 7oz...which puts him in the 50% for weight...30 inches long...which puts him in the 90% for height. These percentages are for 9 MONTH OLDS...even though his corrected age is only 7 MONTHS! His growth rate is INSANE! Physically, he's above average for his true age and off the charts for his corrected age. When it comes to development though, we have seen some things that are lagging behind, while others he has mastered as if there was no prematurity at all. He sits on his own, is starting to feed himself table foods and is grabbing things between his forefingers and thumbs........he smiles, laughs, grabs for anything and everything within reach and responds when his name is called. His legs are super strong and he rolls all over the place! What's still missing? Crawling and pulling himself up are the two milestones that I think of. He definitely has the desire to crawl and gets really frustrated because he can't yet get to where he wants to be.......but those chubby little legs and arms do not know how to work together well enough to make him truly mobile. Yeah, I know it will be CRAZY around here with 2 walking, talking toddlers...but at the same time, I can't wait! I am so excited to see what he will be like by his 1st birthday!

That's good that he's a big boy! I'd say definitely a growth spurt. My doctor told me that right before they start to do some new trick (HA!) that they start waking up more at night and being all crazy. So give him some time and go with the flow. I'm sure he'll surprise you with something very soon!
Holy crap. Henri goes for his 9 month appt next week and he's only 16.5 pounds, but he's a little guy (not like Carter) Henri holds his own bottle now and also started the 1:30 & 5:30 am feedings. i make a bottle of formula, pop it in his mouth and go back to bed. Problem solved. He has no teeth to rot, so what the heck.
